Description & Building Alterations

Likely built as part of a speculative row of tenements, 99-103 Third Avenue were built in conjunction with 93-97 Third Avenue in 1881 by architect Henry J. Dudley for Samuel Simmons. The Neo-Grec buildings have full window enframements with incised brownstone lintels, a distinctive feature of that style. Although the brownstone has been stuccoed and painted, it still retains much of its detail. The original cornices, with brackets and simple detailing are also still intact. Like the neighboring buildings built by Dudley, these also originally housed one family per floor over ground-floor shops.
