Description & Building Alterations

Two six-story tenement buildings exist on this lot. The buildings were erected together in 1898 by owner William Wirth and designed by architects Kurtzer & Rohl. No. 61-63 was to be occupied by 27 families and No. 59 was to be occupied by 22 families.

The building at No. 61-63 East 3rd Street is six-bays wide, featuring decorative window enframements and arched and pedimented window lintels. The building at No. 59 East 3rd Street is four-bays wide, with beltcourses and arched and molded window lintels. The original cornices on both buildings appear to have been replaced.
