Description & Building Alterations

Three tenement buildings stand on this lot. No. 405 East 12th Street and no. 200 First Avenue were built in 1875 with stores on first floor. No. 198 First Avenue was erected in 1888 for three stores and eight families. No. 405 was originally erected as five stories and basement. Its facade features a bracketed cornice with a frieze, stripped lintels, and simple rectangular sills. It appears that the historical stoop has been removed and the entrance has been moved to ground level. The two five-story buildings at nos. 198-200 First Avenue feature similar facades, with bracketed cornices, stripped lintels, and simple rectangular sills. Their storefronts have been altered multiple times.
