Description & Building Alterations

This corner apartment building is one of the many similar complexes throughout the East Village.  Designed by Leslie Feder for the Department of Housing Preservation & Development, the design of these historicist mixed-use buildings utilizes historic detailing (such as the simulated cornice and concrete block quoins) to simulate older buildings found in the neighborhood.  However, the building also has a concrete slab balcony, aluminum or vinyl windows, and odd proportions and uses of materials.   The ground floor has commercial space while the rest of the building appears residential.
