Description & Building Alterations

This five-story Italianate tenement building was built between 1873 and 1874. The first story was occupied by a store prior to 1938. In 1938, the storefront was removed and filled with a new brick wall flush with the building line.

The facade features arched galvanized-iron window lintels and bracketed sills. Other features include a bracketed and modillioned cornice and cast iron piers at the ground floor. During WWII, a service flag above the street was suspended from this building and the building across from it at No. 78 East 2nd Street.
