73 East 3rd Street | Block : 445 | Lot #50

  • Building Date : 1899
  • Original Use : Residential/Commercial
  • Original Owner : Jacob Rassewitz
  • Original Architect : George Frederick Pelham

Description & Building Alterations

This six-story with basement old law tenement was erected in 1899, along with the buildings on Lots 47, 49 and 51.

They were built by the same owner, Jacob Rassewitz, and designed by the same architect George Frederick Pelham. As a result, they share the same overall design, with the facade featuring elaborate window lintels, spandrels, beltcourses, entrance enframements with a door hood, and a bracketed cornice.

This building still retains a cornice above the first floor, and the facade of the first floor and basement have been resurfaced. The entrance was likely moved from the first floor to the ground level. The original entrance probably looked similar to its neighbor at No. 71 East 3rd Street.
