526 East 13th Street | Block : 406 | Lot #19
Description & Building Alterations
This one-story structure was built in 1951 as a store, according to the New Building Permit and the listing provided by the Office for Metropolitan History. In 1939, an old law tenement was demolished here with the expectation that the lot would be vacant for one year. The tenement was likely identical in design to the Neo-Grec tenements that still stand on either side of this lot, with which it was constructed in 1886 by architects Julius Boekell & Son. The demolition permit notes that there were two stores on the ground floor and 18 apartments on the upper floors of this building.
