507-509 East 11th Street | Block : 405 | Lot #57-58
Description & Building Alterations
This pair of five-story Italianate tenements were likely built in 1862 according to tax records showing an increase in property value. As “pre-law” tenements, they have no air shafts designed into their floor plans.
Both buildings have lost most of their original lintels. The top floor of the building at no. 507 features intact segmental arched lintels while its neighbor at no. 509 has straight lintels with a segmental arch profile on the bottom edge. The cornice is still intact and is a mixture of materials, appearing to be sheet metal with brick embellishment. The ground floor retains no original detailing.
