Description & Building Alterations

A building was constructed at 221 East 3rd Street in 1899, the same year as its neighbor, 223 East 3rd Street.

The architect for both six-story Old Law Tenement buildings was Samuel Sass. A tax photo shows that the two buildings were unified by a continuous roof line and similar stone ornamentation.

There is no information detailing demolition of the structure, except that the building was standing in the early 1940’s and the lot was vacant by the mid-1980’s. The lot is now used as a green space owned by NYC Parks and Recreation and is called Los Amigos Garden.
