114 First Avenue | Block : 434 | Lot #8
Description & Building Alterations
The building was originally built in 1841-1843. It was altered in 1886, at which time it was raised to its present five-story height and the facade and rear elevation were entirely rebuilt. The facade was also extended to the building line. In a subsequent alteration in 1938, a new storefront designed by Stanley Rapaport replaced the old one.
The present facade features two stone decorative panels between the the third and fourth floor end windows. Most historic details like the cornice, window lintels, and sills have been shaved and the brick facade has been stuccoed over. The storefront has also since been modified.
