This five-story tenement was built between 1843 and 1845. In 1890, it was raised one story from its original four. In 1917 its raised-stoop entrance was removed.

What is the Building Blocks Project

The site explores the area generally considered today as the East Village: from a northern border of 14th Street to a southern border of Houston Street, Avenue D in the east to 4th Avenue/the Bowery to the west.
