Description & Building Alterations

This seven-story brick tenement was built in 1899 by owner Benedict Klein. The building’s facade is the same as the buildings on lots 20, 35 and 41, designed by the same architect, George Frederick Pelham. It was originally occupied by 36 families and two stores.

The facade features brick or terra cotta friezes and beltcourses that separate each floor. The facade also features arched or pedimented lintels above the windows and an original modillioned cornice. The original stoop entrance was removed in 1926, with the entrance moved to the ground floor. The first two floors’ facades were also redesigned during the 1926 alteration.
