54 Avenue C | Block : 374 | Lot #1
Description & Building Alterations
No. 54 Avenue C is one of four buildings constructed by E. V. Loew in 1872. Originally constructed with brownstone fronts and galvanized iron cornices, the buildings, including this one at 54 Avenue C, are faced with a painted cementious coating. In 1882 owners Schwarzkopf & Herschmann added a two story rear addition to house an additional family. In 1907 owner William Cohen removed the partition separating the addition from the main building and installed a “proper” store front.
