533 East 11th Street | Block : 405 | Lot #46
Description & Building Alterations
This six-story old law tenement, built in 1901, is clad in yellow brick with elaborate terra-cotta trim. The keystones of the windows on the first, fourth and fifth floors have terra-cotta faces molded in an elaborate grotesque style. Other terra-cotta ornamentation involves intricate floral and grape vine patterns.
The cornice has been removed and the doorway, which originally would have been accessed by a stoop, has been lowered. The area below the first floor windows have also been heavily altered.
This building once had a “sister” building next door at 535 East 11th Street before it was demolished in 1984.
