This eight-story building was built in 2002, replacing two 1906 tenements designed by Bernstein & Bernstein. It is historicist in design, using features like the classical balustrade and figures holding shields to recall past architectural traditions.

What is the Building Blocks Project

The site explores the area generally considered today as the East Village: from a northern border of 14th Street to a southern border of Houston Street, Avenue D in the east to 4th Avenue/the Bowery to the west.
