Description & Building Alterations

Two buildings exist on this lot. The front four-story brick building was originally erected between 1849 and 1850, before its seeming owner bought the adjacent lot and built No. 425 East 12th Street the following year. The tax assessment record for 1849 is missing, so the exact owner and year of construction is uncertain. No. 423 and No. 425 share similar facades.

The present facade features a simple bracketed cornice, molded lintels, and rectangular sills. The first story has been reconfigured and refaced.
