Description & Building Alterations
This Postmodern building on the northeast corner of Avenue A and East 3rd Street was built in the mid-1990s and employs two colors of brick to create a bold pattern covering the entire facade. The building combined studio apartments above ground-floor shops. It replaced several mid-19th century tenement buildings.
The lot was once part of William B. Astor’s holdings and was leased out between c. 1850-1875.
