Description & Building Alterations

This five-story apartment building was constructed in 2000. The site had formerly been a vacant lot.

An alteration application filed in 1912 reveals that a four-story tenement previously occupied this site. It was still there in 1954, according to a Certificate of Occupancy in that year; however, by the 1980s it had been demolished. That same application also mentioned the four-story building at no. 356 next door, which still stands. No. 356 was originally constructed as a single-family rowhouse with a stoop before being “tenementized” in the late 19th or early 20th centuries. It can be assumed that the former building at no. 354 had also been a tenementized rowhouse.
