Description & Building Alterations

According to tax assessment records, this tenement building was constructed along with Lots 36 and 37 in 1851 by developer C. DuBois. Originally the façade faced out onto the First Avenue elevated train which has since been removed. In 1912, the rear elevation was extended to make room for indoor bathrooms, and in 1947 the original storefront was replaced. According to tax photos the building once had a decorative cornice and recessed display windows on the second story. It is four stories in height and three bays wide, although the second floor fenestration has been changed to four bays. The building retains its sheet metal window sills and lintels at the third and fourth floors.
