Description & Building Alterations

According to tax assessment records, this tenement building was constructed along with Lots 35 and 37 in 1851 by developer C. DuBois. Originally the façade faced out onto the First Avenue elevated train which has since been removed. The building was given a rear extension in 1874 to house more families and a store, and in 1947 the building’s original storefront was replaced. At this time, the building was occupied by a first story store and offices on the upper floors. It is four stories in height, three bays wide, and clad in brick. The sheet metal lintels have a simple profile, and the intact cornice features modillions and dentils.
