Description & Building Alterations

This handsomely ornamented building was constructed in 1900 by architect Michael Bernstein of 245 Broadway who was employed by owner John Katzman of 177 Orchard Street. It was built as a 5 story, French flat for 12 families.  George Cukor (1899-1983) director of many films including Little Women (1933), The Philadelphia Story (1940), and My Fair Lady (1964), lived in the building with his family as a child.
