Description & Building Alterations

This five-story tenement was built in 1862 by the heirs of Stephen Whitney, who purchased many properties on this block in 1825, including the buildings next to it. In 1865 it was leased to William Gessner.

The present facade features an entrance enframed by cast-iron Corinthian columns, a brick frieze, dentil course and original iron cornice. The window lintels have been shaved, a single small window has been added to each story in the center of the building, and the storefront has been infilled.
