Description & Building Alterations

This 6 story new law tenement at 310-312 East 4th street replaced two older buildings.  Owner Julius Weinstein of 192 Bowery hired architect, Michael Bernstein of 111 Broadway to construct this building in 1902.

Costing $40,000 to build the apartment building was meant to house 24 families.  In 1930 the building was updated with radiator heating.

This lot is occupied by an new law tenement. It is six stories high and built of brick. The original brickwork is a common bond.  This building’s original lintels remain, though both the bottom and top levels show signs of alteration.  Tax photos from 1940 show the building formerly had a cornice, and that the lower level was, at the time, still in harmony with the building’s design.
