Description & Building Alterations

In 2014, alteration work was complete on 31-33 2nd Avenue. Changes included renovations of the ground floor commercial space and second and third story apartments. Three stories of apartments were also added to the top of the building. The 2014 alterations were designed by architect Brent M. Porter

Late 19th century maps indicate that two 3-story buildings existed on this site (No. 33 2nd Avenue was used as a stable, and 31 2nd Avenue as a residential building). In 1923, records show that No. 33 was was being used as a restaurant, dance hall & office, and in 1935 was altered for use as a Funeral Chapel & offices. A cast stone storefront with the arched doorway was added in 1935. A funeral establishment occupied the building at least until 1974.
