308-310 East 8th Street | Block : 390 | Lot #11
Description & Building Alterations
Lot 11 was at one time seven smaller lots. Now it contains a building called Casa Victoria, which provides affordable housing for the elderly. It was constructed in 1903 for original owners Schlessinger & Feuichel and designed by architects Sass & Smallheiser.
A row of tenements on the property had fallen into disrepair by the 1980s, at which time they were demolished by the city to make room for the current housing development. Most of the tenements and stores had been built in the first few years of the 20th century by various architects, including Sass & Swallheiser, Michael Bernstein and Harde & Zhort. A single tenement at 326 East 8th Street (lot 20) escaped demolition, although the property surrounding it on three sides belongs to Casa Victoria. On the east side of the lone tenement is a parking lot for the housing development (former lots 21 and 22).
