This now-vacant lot was, in 1853, an iron foundry which also existed on Lots 9 and 10. In 1905, a tenement building stood on this lot with a retail bakery on the ground floor. All baking was done in the basement. This lot was vacant in the 1980s according to tax photos from the period.

What is the Building Blocks Project

The site explores the area generally considered today as the East Village: from a northern border of 14th Street to a southern border of Houston Street, Avenue D in the east to 4th Avenue/the Bowery to the west.
