219 East 12th Street | Block : 468 | Lot #7502
Description & Building Alterations
Built in 1855 as a single-family residence, this five story brick and brownstone row house was designed in the Italianate style. Over time, the lintels have been shaved down and shutters added, changing the original design intent. In 1924, the raised-stoop entrance was removed. At this time, there were doctors’ offices in the basement and first floor with five families living above that. The ground floor has been further altered with the addition of stone and small arched windows.
