Description & Building Alterations

The current structure at 218 East 3^rd Street is an eight-story residential elevator building built in 2001. The lot is comprised of former lots 14, 15, 16 and 17. Demolition permits dating from 1938 to 1941 indicate that there were buildings on the four lots, and at least two of them appear to have been five-story Old Law Tenements. In the demolition permits, it is specified that all work will be carried out by the Works Progress Administration. Following the demolition of the structures, the area was a surface lot for parking, and then in the early 1960’s it became a trucking terminal and storage.
