204 East 7th Street | Block : 389 | Lot #20
Description & Building Alterations
The building at 204 East 7th Street was constructed in 1899 by architect Michael Bernstein. It is a six-story Old Law Tenement with an above-ground basement and twenty-four residential units.
The building shares a similar aesthetic with its neighbor at 206 East 7th Street which was constructed in the following year by the same architect. It is six stories high, four bays wide and clad in buff brick. The first floor is three bays wide with the entry centered and all three openings arched. The second floor windows have flat arches with voussoirs with decorative keystones. The third and fourth story windows have decorative lintels and the fifth story windows are arched with decorative keystones. The metal cornice is intact and features modillions and swags at the frieze. The basement level appears to have been altered significantly since its construction, but at one time contained stores.
