182 East 7th Street | Block : 402 | Lot #34
Description & Building Alterations
This five-story brick tenement building was built in 1883 as an “old-law” tenement building. The building is simply styled in a Neo-Grec manner with simple lintels accentuated by connecting off-set string courses, both of beige sandstone. The brick storefront is almost undoubtedly not original, but the cornice just above the ground floor may be an original feature. The roof cornice has been replaced with an awkward painted sheet metal covering. Because of the unusual angle, it seems likely that the original cornice is hidden behind the newer covering. Most of the facade is set back from the sides and top of the facade which is accented by the decorative brick corbelling just below the cornice. The building has had advertisement banners hung from its northern facade which appear to cover older painted advertisements.
