176 Second Avenue | Block : 453 | Lot #2
Description & Building Alterations
This five-story structure was erected in 1849-50 as a row house, at the same time its neighboring building at No. 174 was built. The two buildings were originally owned by the same person. Later both were converted into multi-family dwellings.
No. 176’s front extension at the basement and first story were added during an alteration designed by Morris B. Adler in 1925. At this time the stoop was removed and the entrance was moved to the basement. Most of the historical details on the facade were probably lost in the late 20th century.
