45-47 Avenue B | Block : 386 | Lot #5
Description & Building Alterations
Lot 5 is comprised of two buildings, 45 and 47 Avenue B. According to tax records, these three-story row houses were likely built in 1843 (with later alterations), and are part of a row with their two neighbors to the north. These houses are likely Italianate remodelings of Greek Revival houses. The upper floors of No. 45 are accessed by a central entrance on the façade. The façade is rich with historic detail, including a cornice, window surrounds – one set which includes cap-molded lintels – and star-shaped metal tie rods. The first floor of the building was extended to the rear in 1882. A set of alteration permits from 1905 indicate that there was a four-story backhouse used for tenement housing on the rear of the lot. There are demolition permits on file from the late 1980’s that may confirm if and when the backhouse was demolished.
