Description & Building Alterations
This six-story old law tenement building was constructed in 1899 by original owner Abraham Seigel and designed by architects Schneider and Herter. The building was designed and constructed with the building directly to its north, No. 107 Avenue B at the corner of the avenue and East 7th Street.
As the two buildings share numerous architectural details, it is likely that they shared a similar cornice as well, though the cornice at No. 105 has been removed. Originally, the building contained dwellings for sixteen families, with one apartment on the ground floor, and three on each of the upper floors. By the late 1980s, the building had been altered to hold two ground floor stores and twelve apartments. Currently, the ground floor contains two commercial spaces, one of which is connected to the commercial space in the adjoining building to its south, at No. 103 Avenue B.
The brick facade is four bays wide and features windows with keystones at the second story, simple molded stone lintels on the third story, pedimented windows on the fourth story, and flat followed by arched windows on the top story. There are Corinthian pilasters which span the fourth and fifth floors. There is a shallow bracketed cornice separating the third and fourth stories.
