209 Avenue A; 446-448 East 13th Street | Block : 440 | Lot #31
Description & Building Alterations
This four-story brick tenement was originally built in 1860. Most historical details on the building are lost. The present facades feature rusticated stone-like facing, slightly projecting piers, and simple rectangular sills. In 1907, the cellar was used as a macaroni factory and the apartments were rearranged so that each would have access to fire-escapes as was required by the new law. In 1946 the first floor was converted for use as a funeral parlor and brick was added to the Avenue A ground floor facade.
