Description & Building Alterations

This five-story old law tenement building at No. 85 East 3rd Street was built in 1889. Designed by K. Kartner and owned by John Schnugg, it was to be occupied by 20 families (four on each floor). In 1906, the front wall of the cellar and first story were reconstructed by architect O. Reissman. By this time, the building was owned by Heiman Glasser. A bakery occupied the basement for a portion of the early to mid 20th century.

The facade features rick decorated elements, with patterned brickwork, stone window lintels, ornamental tympanum and a bracketed cornice.
