This red-brick apartment building was constructed in 1988. It replaced historic commercial buildings that were similar in appearance to its neighbor, No. 81 Avenue A. These original buildings are visible in the 1980s tax photos. The lot was once part of William B. Astor’s holdings and was leased out to various people between 1850 and 1875.

This was previously Block 433 and Lots 31, 32, and 33, and then Lots 1001 to 1033.

What is the Building Blocks Project
