Description & Building Alterations

Based on map evidence and the tax records, this five story tenement was built c. 1862. It has had its façade refaced, removing all prior ornamentation. In 1905 owner H. Shapiro of 115 Essex Street enlarged the rear windows and installed bathrooms on all floors. In 1906 a new owner, Michael Kramer of 746 East 6^th Street, installed a storefront on the ground floor – removing the front wall and creating new openings.
