Description & Building Alterations

According to the Office for Metropolitan History, this fourteen-story New York University dormitory was built in 1986. Originally a 25′ X 103′ sized lot, located on the corner of 11th Street and 3rd Avenue, Lot 1 was part of William B. Astor’s holdings and was leased out to Laura Delano in 1876.

There are few details available about the buildings that formerly occupied the space on which the NYU dormitory now stands, but various applications and certificates issued throughout the 1920s indicate that among the buildings that were demolished were three- and four-story mixed use buildings and a large public parking lot.
