Description & Building Alterations

725-729 East 9th Street began as two lots, 49 and 50 both of which had New-Law tenements on them.  Lot 49 was constructed in 1904 by Sass & Smallheiser for Simon Sterner.  It was a 6-story brick tenement with first floor shops and housed  28 families on the upper five floors.  Lot 50 was built in 1903 by Sass & Smallheiser for Louis Block.  Again, a 6-story tenement with first floor shops, this building housed 22 families on the upper five floors.  In 1972 the tenement on lot 50 was condemned.

In 2000 a new building designed by Simon Fouladian was built on the site.
