Description & Building Alterations
This structure was originally built as a mid-19th century structure and altered in 1927 to the design of architect Sidney Daub. Tax photos indicate that its present appearance dates later than that alteration, most likely during the mid-20th century.
The Shevchenko Scientific Society established its branch and United States headquarters in 1947 in New York City at 63 Fourth Avenue. This institution is dedicated to scholarly research and public service. Its international membership body included such renowned former members as Albert Einstein and Max Planck.
At one point, Biblio Tannen Books/publishers made their home here, as did the Iliad Book Shop.
