624 East 11th Street | Block : 393 | Lot #19
Description & Building Alterations
This building was originally built at the same time as its neighbors at lots 16 and 18 and likely featured the same design elements. This tenement in juxtaposition with its twins illustrates a tragedy of tenement facade alteration. The strictly functional facade lacks any of the character of the original ornament, nor exemplifies any appealing modernist aesthetic. The vacant lot to the left of this building allows the public to confirm that this building still maintains in its dumbbell “old-law” tenement plan.
Block : 393 / Lot : 019 / Building Date : 1899 / Original Owner : Adolph Wexler / Original Use : Residential/Commercial / Original Architect : Schneider & Herter
