Description & Building Alterations
This six-and-a-half story tenement was constructed in 1900 by owner Leopold Kaufmann, designed by Schneider & Herter, the architects who also designed No. 60 and No. 54-56 East 3rd Street. It was to be occupied by 26 families and was built at a cost of $29,000.
The Renaissance Revival-style facade features the original modillioned and bracketed cornice, elaborate terra cotta window enframements, beltcourses and spandrels. An elevated stoop leads to the entrance with decorative enframements. There is a half-story basement visible from the sidewalk.
