Description & Building Alterations

This four-story Greek Revival style tenement was likely built as a multiple-unit dwelling. Jonathan Hunk was the owner of the lot in 1850, while it was still vacant. The 1851 tax assessment is missing, and by 1852, a house had been built and the owner had changed to what seems to be Adam Smith. A stable at the rear of the building was erected in 1873. 531 East 13th Street has simple rectangular stone lintels that are flush with the wall plane. The building still retains its simple cornice, though a few modillions are missing. The ground floor has been altered to include new storefront openings and a replacement door at the residential entry.
