Description & Building Alterations

This five story apartment building was originally built as two separate tenement buildings in 1860. The lot was once part of William B. Astor’s holdings between 1850-1875 and was leased out to various people. Through several alterations in the early 1960s the buildings were unified and refaced with the current mid-century modern appearance. The building is ornamented mostly with the horizontal banding of the window courses with brick, differing from the spandrel courses. It is not known how much, if any, original fabric remains of the 1860 buildings.
