Description & Building Alterations
One building constructed in 1840 and owned by Peter Stuyvesant originally sat on lots 7, 8, 9, and 10 of this block. It became six separated buildings between 1853 and 1862, three of which remain at 40½, 42, and 42½.
No. 42½ St. Mark’s Place is two-bays wide and four-stories high with a basement. The present facade is clad in brick and features a round-arched main entry capped by a keystone and dentilled frieze, and a bracketed cornice with paneled frieze.
