419 East 12th Street | Block : 440 | Lot #50
Description & Building Alterations
This six-story tenement was originally erected in 1901 to house 24 families and stores in the basement. It was designed by John P. Cleary and developed along with 417 East 12th Street. Two buildings were taken down to make way for the tenements. The present facade features round-arched openings with rusticated surrounds at the second story and keystones at the sixth story. The building exhibits splayed lintels with scroll keystones, and a bracketed door hood above the original entrance on the current second floor. The present main entry is at the original basement level, and the original sixth story has been removed.
