417 East 12th Street | Block : 440 | Lot #51
Description & Building Alterations
This six-story tenement was originally erected in 1901 to house 24 families and stores in the basement. It was designed by John P. Cleary and developed along with 419 East 12th Street. Two buildings were taken down to make way for the tenements. The present facade features round-arched openings with rusticated surrounds at the first story and keystones at the fifth story. The building exhibits splayed lintels with scroll keystones, and a bracketed door hood above the original entrance on the first floor. In 1929, a new opening was cut for the entrance. The current main entry is at the basement level.
