40 Avenue B | Block : 399 | Lot #37
Description & Building Alterations
Built as a pair of buildings, No. 40 and its neighbor to the north, No. 42, were each designed by William Jose in 1874 to house eight families, two per floor, over ground-floor shops. No. 40 retains more original details than its twin, including the pressed-metal cornice, and the Neo-Grec window lintels and sills, with the exception of those that have been removed due to the installation of several new doors. The raised stoop entrance also was removed.
