Description & Building Alterations

This building was erected as two tenements in 1896 by William F. Prohrig of Mount Vernon, NY and designed by architects Schneider & Herter.  It is a Renaissance Revival building with continuous simple lintels and sills on the second, fourth, and sixth stories. The third and fifth story windows are encased in rounded arches. In 1936 an elevator was installed in the building by owner Hilda Olmut.  That same year the certificate of occupancy was changed to reflect the reduction in the number of apartments in the building due to the combination of apartments in order to create larger rooms. It is possible that the cornice was removed and the ground floor was altered at that time.
