Description & Building Alterations

This four-bay wide, five-story with basement brick tenement was built in 1865. The buildings at Nos. 35-41 East 1st Street were originally owned by the same person, Conrad Schuz, and share an identical facade.

The present facade of No. 39 features a molded curved door hood with brackets, curved window lintels and a bracketed cornice with a paneled frieze. The basement level storefront consists of a brownstone facade, which contrasts the main brick facade of the upper stories.
